Carrier oils are greasy unlike essential oils which have a water-like consistency. The molecules of a carrier oil are larger and do not penetrate the skin as easily. Examples of carrier oil are sweet almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil, just to name a few. We use carrier oils to dilute essential oils (to prevent getting too much at one time) and to slow their evaporation process.
WHY DILUTE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Because essential oils are extremely concentrated, it is very important to dilute them in a carrier oil. Not only does this help facilitate the delivery of the essential oil to your body, it helps to minimize sensitivity. The following chart is for your convenience.
