  2. Be aware that the oils listed for each topic are in order based on what our research and testing has shown to be most effective.
  3. Select only three or four single oils or a combination of singles and blends. 
  4. Click on the name of the blend or the individual oil to read more about its Applications and Cautions (or drug interactions).
  5. When using topically, please refer to our dilution chart here for proper dilution ratios. 
  6. If diffusing is recommended but is not an option for you, apply one drop of oil to a cotton ball or tissue and inhale.

  8. Understand that most of the application methods listed here only give a brief description.  Please see our post on applications here for full details.

NOTE: when the body is provided with the proper tools to begin its repair work, it takes three months to heal plus an additional month for each year that it has been dealing with a specific issue.  So if you have been dealing with "Issue X" for 2 years, it will likely take 3 months plus an additional 2 months (one month for each year you have dealt with "Issue X") to see full health restored. 

Disclaimer

Although the quality of Selah Oils is excellent, it is not advised to take essential oils internally unless under the guidance of a certified physician who is also certified in aromatherapy. We recommend getting internal dosing instructions from a licensed physician as some essential oils are not recommended for oral consumption. This is in no way a reflection on our oil quality, only a matter of safety and caution with respect to how concentrated essential oils are. When used within safe parameters, and under your physician's care, the quality of our essential oils is such that they can be used internally if deemed appropriate.

However, with that said, it is important to remember the extreme concentration of essential oils. "Using essential oils by rubbing them into the skin or via inhalation is in many cases more effective than oral delivery" (3. p. 96).

Abdominal Pain

Persisting abdominal pain could indicate concerning issues, such as appendicitis or a number of other conditions.  Especially in the case of increasing pain, a visit to the doctor is highly recommended.  Food allergies should be taken into consideration.  For food allergy testing (without needles!), we highly recommend Stephanie Fuller, N.D. at Fuller Options.

Lower Region

Blends: Tummy Troubles, DIY Blend listed in Application section below

Singles: Thyme, Eucalyptus, Cardamom 

Oils to Avoid with Abdominal Pain: Clove

Application (choose one or alternate between the two):

    1. Dilute Tummy Troubles and apply over the painful area up to several times daily.  Clockwise application will help, too. 
    2. DIY Blend: Blend Thyme (2 drops), Eucalyptus (3 drops), and Cardamom (3 drops) together and dilute with a carrier oil (mix 3-5 drops of essential oil blend to 5mL [1 tsp] carrier).  Apply over the painful area up to several times daily.  Clockwise application will help, too. 

Upper Region

Blends: Tummy Troubles, DIY Blend listed in Application section below

Singles: Peppermint, Cardamom, Roman Chamomile

Oils to Avoid with Abdominal Pain: Clove

Application (choose one or alternate between the two):

    1. Dilute Tummy Troubles and apply over the painful area up to several times daily.  Clockwise application will help, too.

    Abrasions - Cuts - Scrapes - Wounds

    Blends: Soft, Jr. (this comes in a spray bottle and is very handy when you need to keep things sanitary), Cleanse

    Singles: Lavender, ThymeTea Tree, Frankincense, Myrrh

    Application (choose one): 

    1. Cleanse the area with Lavender (5 drops) diluted in a bowl of warm water.  Then apply one drop of Lavender neat on the area surrounding the abrasion.
    2. Cleanse the area with Tea Tree or Thyme (5 drops) diluted in a bowl of warm water.  Then apply one drop of Roman Chamomile on the area surrounding the abrasion.
    3. If water is not readily available to assist with the cleansing process, you may simply apply several drops of one of the above blends or single oils neat (undiluted) on the location.
    4. Soft, Jr. Spray is a great option for small cuts or scrapes that happen on the go.  It may be a good idea to keep a bottle of it in your purse for a quick disinfectant and wound soother.  

    Abscess

    Blends: Armor, Cleanse, Clarify, Immunity (esp. for children under 6yrs), Ease, Jr.

    Singles: Tea TreeThyme, MyrrhFrankincense (Boswellia frereana or Boswellia carterii)Lemon, Lavender, Eucalyptus Radiata

    Application:

    • Apply a cold compress twice a day
    • Dilute 1-1 with a carrier oil and apply one to three times a day

    Acidosis

    Blends: Armor 

    Singles: LemonMyrrhPeppermint

    Application:

    Mix 3-5 drops essential oil of choice to 1 tablespoon carrier.  Massage on location.

    Acne

    *Also see Blackheads, Clogged Pores, and/or Acne Scarring.

    Blends: ClarifyCleanse, Soft

    Singles: Helichrysum, Tea Tree, Geranium, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Lavender, Copaiba, Basil

    Application:

    1. Use a gentle cleansing routine followed by a toner.
    2. Prepare essential oil or blend of your choice.  Dilute 2-3 drops essential oil blend in 5mL carrier of Jojoba with 3 drops macerated carrot root oil added in. 
    3. Apply by gently dabbing the oil onto damp skin (avoid eyes) and allow to soak in for several minutes. 
    4. Use a tissue to dab off any excess. 
    5. Avoid concealer or foundation as much as possible. 
    6. Alternate oils daily or every couple of days for best results.

    "Treating acne tissue with helichrysum in dilution has proven more effective than the use of any other essential oil." -Jeanne Rose, The Aromatherapy Book: Applications and Inhalations 

    "Use Tea Tree in skin washes for acne. It is also good for the large, inflamed and often painful spots which some women tend to get around the nose and chin in the days preceding menstruation." (9. p. 295-296)

    Acne Scarring

    Singles: Helichrysum, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Geranium, German Chamomile

    Application:

    • Blend together 8 drops Lavender, 4 drops Geranium, 4 drops Roman Chamomile, and 4 drops Helichrysum. 
    • Dilute by adding 2-3 drops of this blend into a carrier of choice.  Sweet Almond or Jojoba make fantastic carriers for most people. 
    • Apply morning and evening over scarred area after cleansing your face.

    ADD

    Blends: QuiescentEmpower, Regenerate

    Singles: Vetiver, Cedarwood, Peppermint, Sandalwood, Cardamom, Lavender

    Application:

    Diffuse the blend or singles of your choice at 15 minute intervals throughout the day. For topical application, dilute and apply 4-8 times per day (approximately every 2 hours).

    Addiction

    Cleansing and detoxing the liver is going to be crucial to break free from food and chemical dependencies. For long term freedom from addictions, consult a natural health care provider to be sure that your trace minerals and diet are also supporting your endeavor.

    Blends: Resting, Cleanse, Gall-Liver

    Applications:

    Dilute oil of choice and apply to temples 2-3 times per day and or back of neck, bottoms of feet, stomach, liver area, or the abdomen. Diffuse 15 minutes every 2 hours as needed. Make a warm compress and apply over the liver for 15-30 minutes several times per day.

    Special Situations:

    Prescription Drug Addiction:

    Be sure to inform your physician that you will be using essential oils during detox from prescription drug addiction. Essential oils help to calm the nervous system as you reduce your dose of prescribed medication. Be sure to use no more then half of a normal dilution amount. See Dilution Chart Here

    Substance Addiction: 

    The biggest challenge you will run into is with withdrawal symptoms. Essential oils will help you combat the anxiety and stress that the nervous system will encounter during this time.

    Alcoholism:

    Essential oils should be used at half the general dilution guidelines and will be especially helpful with digestion and nervous system troubles. See Digestion and Nervous System for specific oil recommendation.

    Adrenal Glands - Addison’s Disease - Schmidt's Syndrome

    Blends: Balance, Regenerate, Resting, Lili Beth, Indigo 

    Singles: Basil, Rosemary, Peppermint, Black Pepper, Pine

    Applications:

    Apply a warm compress over the adrenal glands. Apply to the back of neck topically. Diffuse throughout the day as needed.

    AIDS

    Note: Our main goal here is to build the immune system.

    Blends: Gall-Liver (Particularly our pre-diluted 10mL roll-on because it is 95% black cumin seed oil which has an 88-92% inhibition effect on HIV according to Dr. Rawan Farags' research.), Armor

    Singles: Cistus, Lemon, Frankincense 

    Applications:

    • Internal Application: Kurt Schaubelt, Ph. D. says that a single drop of Frankincense taken orally may help with immunodeficiency (and depression) (4. p. 133) Please, of course, only attempt this under the care of your physician.
    • Dilute and apply to the bottoms of feet two to three times daily.

    Alertness

    Allergies - Food Allergies - Seasonal Allergies - Hay Fever

    If you believe you have food allergies, be sure to have food allergy testing done and avoid those foods.  For food allergy testing (without needles!), we highly recommend Stephanie Fuller, N.D. at Fuller Options.  If you are up against seasonal allergies, the oils listed below will give you some ideas to relieve symptoms.

    Blends: Breeze (for seasonal allergies or hay fever), Breeze, Jr.Lili Beth (Add Cedarwood if cedar is a problem for you), Tummy Troubles (food allergies), DIY Blend listed in Application section below

    Singles: LavenderCedarwoodEucalyptus RadiataDillPeppermint (food allergies)

    Application:

    • Diffuse oil(s) of choice as needed.
    • Apply diluted to bottoms of feet, chest, or a very small amount to the sinuses (1-2 drops).
    • Diffuse 3 drops of Roman Chamomile and 3 drops of Lemon in a diffuser or place 1 drop of each onto a cotton ball, tissue, or pillow and inhale deeply.
    • DIY Bath Blend: 2 drops Roman Chamomile, 2 drops Lemon, 1 drop Lavender.  Dilute in several drops of a carrier oil and add to the bath. 

    Alopecia - Hair Loss

    Singles: Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Cypress, Clary Sage, Roman Chamomile, Fennel

    Application:

    Make a blend of 10 drops Cedarwood, 10 drops Sandalwood, 5 drops Cypress, 5 drops Clary Sage, 1 drop Roman Chamomile, 1 drop Fennel.  Dilute 2 drops of the blend into 5mL (teaspoon) of a carrier (avocado or fractionated coconut). Apply to the affected areas during the day or at night before bed.

        Let me start out by stating this simple, yet key piece of info on this subject: The memory is powerfully and endlessly affected by aroma. 

        There is an undeniable link, as well as much scientific evidence, that connects the olfactory system (which includes the sense of smell) to the mind and emotions.  What a powerful tool this can be in our time of need!  Which of us have not encountered a long forgotten fragrance from our childhood and were not instantly transported back to the very memories that we thought had long vanished?  

        When inhaled, essential oils are brought into the blood stream via the blood vessels in the nasal cavity and follow a direct route to the brain.  Essential oils stimulate the part of the brain called the hippocampus, which stores information about experiences and facts.  Memories are released from the mind's storage center in this way and are able to be more readily brought to the surface for recall.  All this happens nearly instantaneously. 

        Because essential oils cross the blood brain barrier, the brain responds readily and easily to their aroma.   And now, my friends, we find ourselves holding in our hands a fantastic modality with which we can approach the care of a loved one with Alzheimer's or other neurological issues (Lou Gehrig's, Parkinson's, MS, etc.)

        In summary, essential oils posses an extensive, perhaps even an immeasurable amount of therapeutic potential in dealing with neurological issues.  

        Essential oils in the "terpine" family in particular, may be of the most use to us in neurological cases.  Included in the Terpine class of essential oils is a sub group known as sequiterpenes (composed of three isoprene units) which are comprised of molecules small enough to readily penetrate the blood brain barrier.  This means that oils high in sesquiterpenes (which bring oxygen to the tissues on a cellular level) will be of utmost value to brain health.  Sesquiterpenes can also be classified as antiallergenic, antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, calming, blood and lymph decongestant, hypotensive, liver stimulant, and stimulating of glandular secretions.

        Sesquiterpenes are typically found in woody, resinous, or root sourced oils such as: Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Cedarwood.  We also find high sesquiterpenes in German Chamomile, Ginger, Niaouli, Peppermint, and Sage.   

        Blends (in order): Soft, Regenerate, Quiescent, Empower, Lili Beth

        Singles: Cedarwood, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Black Pepper, Patchouli, Myrrh, Ginger, Frankincense, German Chamomile

        Anal Fissures (Tears)

        Blends: Soft, DIY Blend listed in Application section below

        Singles: Roman Chamomile, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon

        Application:

        1. Prepare a bowl of warm water and add Lavender (5 drops) and Lemon (2 drops).  Gently bathe the area with the water/oil mix.
        2. Apply Soft diluted (Soft, Jr. Spray is pre-diluted and makes application very easy) to the area as needed. 

        OR

        1. Follow Step 1 above and then prepare remedy in Step 2 below.
        2. DIY Blend: 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Roman Chamomile, and 1 drop Geranium together and dilute with a carrier oil (mix 3-5 drops of essential oil blend to 5mL [1 tsp] carrier).  Apply around the area as needed. 

          Anemia

          Anemia is an iron deficiency. You will not get iron from these oils, but essential oils can help with absorption of iron.

          Singles: Lemon, Lavender

          Application:

          Dilute and apply to the bottoms of feet and stomach.

          Aneurysm

          Seek medical assistance if you suspect you have an aneurysm.

          The following essential oils will support the cardiovascular system.  

          Blends: LoveDIY Blend listed in Application section below

          Singles: Helichrysum (dissolves blood clots), Sandalwood, Cypress (strengthens capillary and vascular walls), Frankincense

          Application: 

          • Dilute blend or oil of choice at a 1:1 ratio in a carrier and apply over affected area several (up to 5) times daily.
          • DIY Blend: Blend together 5 drops Cypress, 3 drops Frankincense, 2 drops Helichrysum.  Dilute in a carrier at a 1:1 ratio and apply over affected area several (up to 5) times daily. 
          • Diffuse (undiluted) into the air or apply 1 drop to a cotton ball or tissue and inhale deeply.

          Anger & Aggression

          Blends: Soft

          Singles: LemonGeraniumLavenderHelichrysumFrankincense

          Application:

          • Dilute and apply to 1-2 drops to the temples (don't get too close to the eyes), the bottoms of feet, wrists, back of neck, or inside of elbows.
          • Diffuse (undiluted) into the air or apply 1 drop to a cotton ball or tissue and inhale deeply.

          Anti-catarrhal

          See the "Respiratory Infections" tab for more details on which essential oils will help expel excess mucus from the body.

            Anxiety & Panic

            You may also see the "Stress" tab for related info. 

            Inhalation of the essential oil is the most immediate way to get results. Diffuse into the air as often as needed. For topical application, dilute oil of choice and apply to the back of neck, inside of the elbows, bottoms of the feet. In addition, you can put 1-2 drops in bath water.

            If you feel an anxiety or panic attack coming on, it is very important to get one of the blends or single oils listed here into your system immediately.  Inhalation is best.

            General Anxiety or Panic: 

            Blends: QuiescentRegenerate, Soft

            Singles: Lavender, Geranium, Helichrysum, Roman Chamomile, Frankincense, Vetiver, Sandalwood

            Tense Anxiety: Symptoms include bodily tension, body aches, muscle pain, general soreness.

            Blends: Soft, Resting

            Singles: Helichrysum, Orange, Sandalwood, Lavender, Clary Sage, Patchouli, Roman Chamomile

            Restless Anxiety (Panic): Symptoms include sweating, over activity, dizziness, palpitations, lump in throat, and over activity of the autonomic nervous system (example frequent urination, diarrhea)

            Blends: Quiescent 

            Singles: Vetiver, CedarwoodRoman Chamomile, Frankincense

            Apprehensive Anxiety: Symptoms include unease, apprehension, worry, brooding, over anxiousness, paranoia, sense of foreboding

            Blends: Lili BethResting

            Singles: Bergamot, Lavender, Geranium, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Orange

            Repressed Anxiety: Symptoms include constantly feeling on edge, irritable, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, feeling exhausted (See Adrenals)

            Blends: Empower

            Singles: Bergamot, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedarwood

            Application:

            • Inhalation is the most immediate way to get results. Diffuse into the air as often as needed.
            • Dilute oil of choice and apply to the back of neck, inside of the elbows, bottoms of the feet. In addition, you can put 1-2 drops in bath water.

            Appetite Stimulant

            Blends: Tummy Troubles

            Singles: Fennel

            Application:

            Dilute and apply to the bottom of the feet or in the belly button.

            Arteries - Hardening

            Blends: Love - specially formulated to assist the body with regulating the blood pressure, regulating the heartbeat, and breaking down plaque on the blood vessel walls.

            Singles: Helichrysum (chelator: lowers cholesterol, reduces blood clotting), Cypress

            Application:

            Dilute oil(s) of choice and use for body massage twice weekly. 

            Arthritis & Joint Pain

            Massive changes need to be made to the diet. Common food sensitivities need to be cut out including wheat, sugar, and dairy. A food allergy test is recommended.  The following may help with symptoms.

            Osteoarthritis

            Blends: Regenerate, ComfortDIY Blend listed in Application section below

            Singles: Helichrysum, Balsam FirCedarwood, Ginger, Sandalwood, Lavender, Rosemary

            Rheumatoid

            Blends: Comfort, EaseDIY Blend listed in Application section below

            Singles: HelichrysumRoman ChamomileGerman Chamomile, Cypress, Peppermint, Marjoram, Lavender

            Application Options:

            • Bath Method: Choose a selection of oils and add up to 6 drops total to the bath in combination with Epsom salt and aluminum free baking soda.

            *Comfort and Ease Blends contain peppermint and will burn your nether regions! Not recommended for bath. Choose another option or use them topically. 

            • Topical: Dilute Comfort or Ease Blend at a 1:1 ratio with a carrier and apply to the affected area.
            • DIY Blend: 30 drops Balsam Fir, 10 drops Helichrysum, 5 drops Peppermint, 1 drop Oregano.  Dilute 1:1 with a carrier and apply to the affected area. 

            Asthma

            Asthma can be triggered by food allergies. If you want long term relief, have a food allergy test done first and fully cut out each food individually in three month increments. In the meantime, here are some suggestions that can open up the airway.

            For some individuals, essential oils can irritate the lungs further. Use sparingly and with caution.

            Blends: Breeze (use cautiously as it contains a minor amount of Marjoram), Tummy Troubles

            Oils to Avoid with Asthma: Yarrow, Marjoram, Oregano, Rosemary

            Application:

            • For Breeze, dilute and apply over the lungs, chest 2-6 times per day.
            • For Tummy Troublesdilute and apply over the stomach 2-6 times per day.

            Athlete's Foot

            Blends: Clarify, Breeze

            Singles: TeaTree, LavenderGeranium, Eucalyptus, LemonOregano, VetiverPatchouli, Lemongrass

            Application:

            1. Apply 2 drops of Tea Tree and 1 drop of Lavender neat on the toes and spread around the nails and in between the toes. 
            2. Use either Clarify or Breeze or mix together 5 drops of Tea Tree and 1 drop of each of the other single oils listed. Use neat or dilute 1:1 with a carrier oil or apple cider vinegar.  Apply to the affected areas, especially between the toes and around the toenails.  
            3. For more severe cases, tea tree oil can be used neat over the affected area 2-3 times per day, especially before bed. Keep the feet dry throughout the day.
            4. Treat the shoes with food grade diatomaceous earth and tea tree oil. Cotton socks are best. Avoid nylon and other synthetic materials because they do not breathe as well.

            Autism

            Because the spectrum of autism is so wide ranging, we are going to give ideas for different areas of concern.

            Agitation: QuiescentHelichrysum, Vetiver, Empower, Cistus

            Anger: Soft, Quiescent, Cistus, Vetiver, Helichrysum

            Insomnia: Resting, Quiescent

            Restlessness: Soft, Quiescent, Sandalwood

            Non-Responsive: Soft, Lemon Eucalyptus, Spearmint

            Soothing: QuiescentResting, Soft, Helichrysum

            Other Options: Frankincense, Sandalwood, Eucalyptus Globulus, Vetiver, Cedarwood

            Application:

            • Diffuse oils of choice at 15 minute intervals 6 times per day or more.
            • Dilute and apply directly 4-6 times to the back of neck, bottoms of feet, or inside of elbows.

            Back Pain

            Essential oils posses such an incredible range of abilities; their uses really do seem to be quite endless.  While there are nearly two dozen oils that would assist you in this remedy, we will list them in order of effectiveness and keep it to just a handful or two so as not to overwhelm you.  As this list is a bit long, remember to use them in the order listed if you can.  It's extensive enough that we think everyone might have at least a few of these on hand. 

            Blends: Ease, Comfort, RegenerateDIY Blend listed in Application section below

            Singles: Balsam Fir, Peppermint, Helichrysum, Rosemary, Ginger, Marjoram, Basil, Eucalyptus Radiata, Roman Chamomile, Black Pepper, Lavender, Cardamom, Thyme linalol 

            Application Options:

            • Dilute one of the above blends at a 1:1 ratio with a carrier and apply on location.  If someone is able to help you, having them massage the blend into the painful areas will be most effective.  They may be inclined to wear gloves.  Repeat as needed. 
            • Applying the oils and then a warm compress over the area once or twice daily (if there is no inflammation) will be of great assistance.  Some people prefer to use an ice pack, and it really just depends on the particular person as to which is more helpful, heat or cold.  Generally speaking, cold is best used to reduce inflammation while heat is best for muscle relief (contraction or tension). 
            • DIY Blend: Blend together equal amounts of Rosemary, Marjoram, and Helichrysum.  Dilute 1:1 and apply as in the first point above.
            • DIY Blend: 30 drops Balsam Fir, 10 drops Helichrysum, 5 drops Peppermint, 1 drop Oregano.  Dilute 1:1 and apply as in the first point above. 

            Bad Breath

              Bed Wetting

              Singles: Cypress

              Application: 

              Dilute and apply liberally to lower abdomen before bed. 

              Bedsores

              Blends: Cleanse, Soft, Clarify

              Singles: Lavender, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Tea Tree

              Application:

              • Dilute oil of choice at a 1:1 ratio with a carrier and apply directly on location 2-3 times daily. 
              • Dilute as recommended and apply to bottoms of feet. 
              • You may also diffuse oil of choice neat.

              Belching, Burping

              Bites - Insect

              Black Eye

              Blends: Regenerate, DIY Blend listed in Application section below

              Singles: Helichrysum (to assist with quicker reabsorption of blood), Roman ChamomileGeraniumLavender, German Chamomile

              Application:

              • DIY Blend: Mix 1 drop of Helichrysum, 1 drop of Geranium, and 1 drop of Roman Chamomile in two teaspoons of witch hazel.  If you do not have these oils on hand but have others of the above list, use those instead. 
              • Add this mix to one tablespoon of cold water.  Mix well and strain through a coffee filter (or muslin). 
              • Soak a gauze pad or a cotton round in the mix, squeeze out the excess, and apply to the eyelid and surrounding area.  
              • Freshen the pad as needed. Store mix in the refrigerator. 

              OR

              • Dilute oil(s) of choice in a carrier and apply around the outside of the brow bone every two hours or as needed.  Do not get oil too close to the eye. 

              Blackheads

              These unwelcome irritations occur when oil/sebum and debris become blocked in an open pore and begin to oxidize.  Steaming is an excellent way to open the pores and loosen the blockages. Then follow with a proper serum for prevention.

              Removal Process:

              • Steaming: Bring a small pot of water to a boil.  Remove from heat and add a drop of Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil to the pot.  Position your head over the pot, cover your head and the pot with a towel, close your eyes, and steam your face until it is warm.  
              • After Steam Rinse: Add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mother) to hot water.  Rinse the face or apply a warm compress with this mixture. 
              • Removal: Remove the blackhead if it has softened enough.  Be careful not to damage the skin. Rinse face again with rinse in previous step. 

              Tonic: 

              • 3.5 Tbs mineral or distilled water
              • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar (with the mother) 
              • 2 tsp witch hazel
              • 2 drops Bergamot essential oil
              • 2 drops Cypress essential oil

              After patting dry the skin, apply this tonic to help prevent further blackhead formation and to loosen established blackheads. 

              Prevention:

              Mix 1-2 drops of Cleanse into a teaspoon of Jojoba oil (5mL) and massage a small amount into the affected area each morning and night.

              Bladder Infection

              Blood - Broken Blood Vessel

              Blends: Love, Helichrysum Blend

              Singles: Helichrysum, Grapefruit, Cypress

              Application: 

              • Dilute oil(s) of choice and apply on location.
              • Alternatively, soak a gauze pad in the diluted oil(s) and apply over the location. 

                Blood - Clot - Anticoagulant (prevents clotting)

                Blends: Comfort, Helichrysum Blend

                Singles: Helichrysum, Clove, LemonLavender, Grapefruit

                Application:

                • Dilute oil(s) of choice 1:1 ratio and apply on location multiple times daily. Ideally every 2-3 hours totaling 4-6 applications.
                • Can also make a warm compress and apply for 15 minutes twice daily. 

                Blood - High Cholesterol

                Blends: Love - specially formulated to assist the body with regulating the blood pressure, regulating the heartbeat, and breaking down plaque on the blood vessel walls. 

                Singles: Helichrysum (chelator: lowers cholesterol, reduces blood clotting), Rosemary, Clove, Roman Chamomile, Lemongrass

                Application Options: 

                • Dilute oil(s) of choice at 1:1 ratio and apply 2-4 drops at pulse points (inside elbows, wrists, base of throat).
                • Dilute oil(s) of choice at 1:1 ratio and use 6-10 drops along the spine twice daily.  
                • Use oils (diluted) in a body massage twice weekly.

                Blood - Internal Bleeding

                Singles: Cistus

                Application: 

                According to Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D., take 1-3 drops in a glass of water.  (From his book, The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils.)  Another method is to drop the oil onto a teaspoon of honey and then dissolve the honey into a glass of water.  Please, of course, only attempt this under the care of your physician. 

                  Blood Pressure - High

                  A healthy, fresh food diet can be particularly effective.  

                  Blends: Love - specially formulated to assist the body with regulating the blood pressure, regulating the heartbeat, and breaking down plaque on the blood vessel walls. 

                  Singles: Clary Sage, Lavender, Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Pine

                  Oils to Avoid with High Blood Pressure: Lemon, Hyssop

                  Application Options:  

                  • Dilute oil(s) of choice at a ratio of one part essential oil to four parts carrier oil and use for a full body massage once daily.  The massage should be a gentle, rhythmic massage using strokes that move toward the heart.  A massage of this sort can help reduce blood pressure even without the use of essential oils. 
                  • Dilute and apply topically on chest morning and night. 
                  • Apply .5 to 1 tsp carrier oil on chest with one drop of Love blend each morning/night. 
                  • Diffuse for approx. 20 min. three times a day

                  Blood Pressure - Low

                  Recipes:

                  Fresh Field Deodorant:

                  1 tsp (5mL) white wine or cider vinegar 1 tbs (15 mL) glycerin 5 drops Lavender essential oil 5 drops Coriander essential oil 5 drops Lemon essential oil 5 drops Rosemary essential oil 2 drops Peppermint essential oil 5 drops Grapefruit essential oil

                  1 pint spring water or hydrosol

                  Blend essential oils together.  Add them to the glycerin and shake for a good, long time. Let mixture settle then add vinegar.  Pour into the water or hydrosol and shake very well.  Strain through unbleached coffee filter.  

                  *Tip: the longer you wait to add the oils-vinegar-glycerin mix to the water/hydrosol, the stronger fragrance you will get. 

                  Geranium Deodorant:

                  2/3 cup witch hazel hydrolat (alcohol free) 6 tsp aloe vera juice 2 tsp zinc oxide powder

                  30 drops geranium essential oil

                  In an 8 oz dark glass spray bottle, combine witch hazel, aloe vera juice, zinc oxide powder, and geranium essential oil. Shake vigorously to mix well.  To use, apply to clean, dry armpits. Allow to dry completely before dressing, to avoid white marks on clothing  (11. p. 417).

                  Cooling Lavender-Mint Powder:

                  1 cup baking soda 30 drops lavender essential oil

                  30 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil

                  Mix ingredients in a a glass bowl. Stir to combine. Pour the mixture into a glass or ceramic sugar shaker, and apply to problem areas (8. p.87-88). You can also sprinkle this in shoes to help with foot odor.

                    Boils

                    Blends: Cleanse

                    Singles: Rosemary, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Thyme, Tea Tree

                    Application Option A:

                    1. Add 2 drops Lavender and 2 drops Thyme to a bowl of hot water, swirl gently, and bathe the area. (If it is severely inflamed, add 1 drop of Roman Chamomile, too.)
                    2. Apply one drop of Lavender or Roman Chamomile to the boil, neat (undiluted). 
                    3. If the boil has burst, apply AROUND the boil one drop of each: Lavender and Thyme. 
                    4. Make a hot compress with one drop of Lavender and one drop of Thyme.  Apply twice a day. 
                    5. After pus is cleared up and swelling reduced, apply Cleanse (diluted) around the area twice daily.

                    Application Option B: 

                    Dilute oil(s) of choice 1:1 ratio and apply a few drops directly on the affected area three times daily (or up to six times). 

                    Bone - Broken, Bruised, Pain, Spur

                    Blends: Ease, Comfort

                    Singles: Helichrysum, Clove, RosemaryCypress, Ginger

                    Application:

                    • Dilute oil(s) of choice 1:1 ratio and apply several drops (gently!) on affected area. 
                    • Apply a cold compress with oils of choice for fifteen minutes up to six times a day (minimum of three). 

                    Bronchitis

                    Blends: Breeze, Inhale, Clarify, CleanseResolve (Resolve is effective, yet strong and should be diffused or applied diluted to bottoms of feet only.)

                    Blends for Babies and Young Children: Breeze, Jr.Armor, Jr., Immunity

                    *Alternating oils daily is most effective.   

                    Application Options:

                    • Internal Application:
                      • Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D. lists Frankincense and German Chamomile to be taken internally/orally and then goes on to say, "The internal application of German Chamomile during acute stages of flu is useful because it detoxifies the metabolic wastes from pathogenic microorganisms." (5. p. 233) 
                      • He also states that "one or two drops will deliver the full pharmacological effect that can be gained from any given oil." (5. p. 223)  
                      • We realize that this is pneumonia, not the flu, that you are remedying here, but we thought that the knowledge of using oils internally for a similar issue may help you.  Of course, you should only try this under the directive of your physician. 
                      • If your physician deems it necessary, you may take 2 drops of oil from the list above twice daily for 10 days. 
                    • Topical: Dilute oils of choice and apply over lungs, throat, and bottoms of feet. 
                    • Topical: Dilute oils of choice and apply as a warm compress over the neck, chest, and upper back (you are aiming to cover both the front and back of the lungs) three times daily. 
                    • Inhalation: Diffuse (undiluted) at 15 minute intervals throughout the day or place 1 drop onto a cotton ball, tissue, or pillow and inhale deeply.  Alternating oils is best, but not necessarily every single time.  Just once daily would work. Or even have an A day blend and a B day blend.  Use a certain protocol of oils on day A and then the other protocol on day B.  
                    • Inhalation: Diffuse throughout the night while sleeping. 
                    • Steam Inhalation:
                      • Bring a small pot of water to a boil. 
                      • While you wait for it to boil, don't watch the pot! ;-)
                      • Once it boils, remove from heat and add several drops of your oil of choice or add the following: 1 drop each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and 2 drops each of Rosemary and Cardamom
                      • Position your head over the pot, cover your head and the pot with a towel, close your eyes, and inhale the steam for a minimum of 10 minutes. 
                      • Do this several times daily as needed.
                    • Topical: One drop of Ginger, Thyme, Ravensara, or Eucalyptus Radiata can be applied to the soles of the feet.  Be sure to spread the oil to cover the sole, the arch, and the area the between the toes.
                    • Topical: Tear a tissue in half and put two drops of Ginger essential oil on each half.  Place the tissues against the soles of your feet and wear socks.  At night, change the tissues and use Thyme instead.  Leave the socks on overnight.  Ravensara or Eucalyptus Radiata can be used in stead of Ginger or Thyme if needed.  

                      Bruise

                      Blends: Regenerate, Comfort

                      Singles: Helichrysum (to assist with quicker reabsorption of blood), Lavender, (for pain and healing), Cypress (for strengthening capillary walls), Clove (to reduce clumping)

                      Application:

                      Dilute 1:1 ratio and apply two or three drops on affected area two to five times daily. Helichrysum should be used neat directly on location.  In addition, a cold compress can be applied several times daily. 

                      Burn

                      Blends: Helichrysum Blend

                      Singles: Helichrysum, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, German Chamomile, Balsam Fir

                      Application: 

                      • Do NOT apply butter or carrier oil in the case of a burn.  If the burn is electrical, submerge the affected area in cold water for a solid ten minutes.  
                      • If the skin is unbroken, use chosen oil(s) neat on location.  Use one drop per square inch of affected skin.  This should bring quick cooling and inflammation reduction.  Apply often throughout the day or as needed. 
                      • Can soak a gauze pad in chosen oils and apply as a cool compress.  It is even better to soak the compress in water and freeze it.  When needed, apply the oils to the compress and then apply to the area.  Repeat as needed. 
                      • Once healing has begun on the location (drying, scabbing), continue to apply the essential oils, but dilute them in a carrier oil to assist with soothing the dried skin and rehydrating the area. 

                      Bursitis

                      Blends: ComfortEase

                      Singles: Cypress, Ginger 

                      Application:

                      Dilute and apply well to affected area. Massage can be especially helpful. 

                      Calming

                      Blends: QuiescentResting, Soft

                      This condition is due to an overgrowth of microorganisms (popularly known as candida or yeast) and is often brought on by lifestyle choices, specifically the diet, or the use of antibiotics. 

                      Remedying this situation using essential oils is extremely effective, but please do expect the "die-off" reaction to accompany the elimination of the yeast.  This will be short lived, but headaches and nausea will likely

                      Candida Appearing on the Skin:

                      Application: 

                      • DIY Blend: 10 drops Tea Tree, 1 drop Oregano, 2 drops Patchouli, and 2 drops Roman Chamomile OR use the Clarify or Breeze blend.
                      • Apply oil choice neat (undiluted) on location and then cover with an antibiotic ointment to "seal" it.
                      • Alternatively, soak a gauze pad in oils, apply to location and wrap the area, leaving the pad.
                      • Repeat choice method two to four times daily.

                      Candida Appearing as Thrush

                      "Candida in the mouth: 1 drop Tea Tree in honey and water - to be used as a mouth rinse 3-5 times a day. Tea Tree is perfect for treating mucous membrane infections of the mouth and gums, and for candida-related infections." (6. p. 282)

                      Candida Appearing as Yeast Infection and/or Vaginal Yeast Infection

                      "Cystitis (urinary tract infection) responds quickly to 1 to 3 drops of essential oil in a glass of water.... can be drunk repeatedly during the day.  In the beginning of an acute condition, this can be done every 20 minutes and symptoms will diminish quickly.  Then the frequency of consumption of the tea tree drink can be reduced.  Treating cystitis with Tea Tree oil is highly effective.  Nonetheless, if the cystitis is recurrent, diet or lifestyle changes may be required for a full resolution." -Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D. (4)*

                      *This info concerning Tea Tree's effectiveness when ingested is included here because, though Cystitis and and Yeast Infections are not the same thing, they frequently share Candida as root a cause.  Infections in general, but especially Candida, can often be remedied with Tea Tree and/or Geranium.

                      Blends: Cleanse, Clarify, DIY Blend listed in Application section below

                      Singles: Tea Tree, Rosemary, Thyme linalol, Lavender, Geranium, LemonEucalyptus, German Chamomile, Myrrh, Lemongrass

                      Application:

                      Direct Application Method:
                          1. Dilute the blend or oil(s) of choice in 30 mL (2 Tbs) carrier oil and apply a small amount daily over the lower abdomen, hips, and upper and lower back.
                          2. DIY Blend:  10 drops Lavender, 10 drops Tea Tree, 5 drops German Chamomile, 5 drops Cypress, 5 drops Thyme.
                          3. If you do not have the oils to make this blend, just select several oils that you have on hand and blend a few drops of each together.  It is best to use them in the order listed.  Dilute and follow daily application listed above.
                        Tea Tree Tampon Method from Dr. Jane Buckle, PhD, RN (12):
                            1. In a saucer, mix two or three drops of tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) in 5ml [approx. 1 teaspoon] of cold-pressed vegetable oil, such as sweet almond oil.  
                            2. Roll a tampon in the mixture until it is saturated, then insert into the vagina.  
                            3. Use the remainder on your fingers to spread the mixture over the labia, and wash your hands.   
                            4. The tampon should be changed three times a day for a new tampon with a fresh dilution of tea tree ... and keep on in overnight as well. 

                          "[Tea Tree Tampons] will not lead to toxic shock syndrome. Tea Tree Tampons are a very safe and effective method of eradicating candidiasis (and many other vaginal infections) and there appear to be no adverse side effects." (Buckle, 386)

                          "The tea tree tampon method has been used successfully in pregnancy with no adverse effects to the mother or baby.  Having suggested this treatment to many patients and colleagues over the last 20 years, I am confident Melaleuca alternifolia [Tea Tree] will remove the infection within 3 days, regardless of how long the woman has had the infection, or if the infection is resistant to conventional antifungals." (Buckle, 387) 

                          Buckle does urge caution, though. If there are exposed raw areas in the vagina or on the labia, using Lavender diluted in vegetable oil first is best.  Used in the exact same way, with a tampon for 1 or 2 days. You can also use Lavender in a sitz bath. 

                          Yogurt Tampon Method:
                              1. Using a single serving (2 oz) carton of yogurt, blend in 5 drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender, and German Chamomile.
                              2. This should be an absolutely unsweetened, live-culture organic yogurt containing no preservatives or additives.  If you can't find this, skip this option and select a different application method. 
                              3. You may apply with a with a small spoon or a pessarie applicator as an alternative to the following tampon application.  Either way, getting the yogurt mixture into the vagina is the goal here! *We can't always be modest, Ladies.  Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.*
                              4. Remove a tampon from its applicator.  A large barreled applicator is better.  Plug the the narrow, back end of the applicator (the end that normally pushes the tampon in) with a small piece of cotton. Scoop as much of the yogurt mix into the other end (the "front" end) of the applicator as possible.
                              5. Apply while lying down with a pillow under the knees as you would a tampon.  Wait 10 minutes before rising.  This can be messy, so you will want to protect the surface beneath you with a towel.  
                              6. Do this once a day until you get to a point of relief. 
                            Apple Cider Vinegar Douche Method:
                                1. Blend 2 drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender, and Lemongrass into 50 mL (3.5 Tbs) apple cider vinegar (organic and with the mother).
                                2. Add to 2-3 cups of warm water and mix well. 
                                3. Douche with this blend daily for three days. 
                              Sitz Bath Method:
                                  1. Dilute 2 teaspoons baking soda into a cup of warm water. 
                                  2. In a separate small bowl, blend a teaspoon carrier oil with 2 drops Lavender and 2 drops German Chamomile.
                                  3. Add the oil blend into the baking soda and water blend.  Mix well.  
                                  4. Add to a bath.  The bath water should be drawn level with the hips. 
                                  5. Use this method for three days. 
                                  6. You may alternate using this baking soda and oil mix as a bath for three days and then as a douche for three days.

                                  Canker Sores - Mouth Ulcers

                                  Blends: Armor, Armor Spray

                                  Singles: Tea Tree, Clove, Lavender, MyrrhGerman ChamomileRoman ChamomileOregano

                                  Application:

                                  Apply one drop (gently!) with your fingertip several times daily.  Gargling twice or three times daily is also an option.  

                                  CAUTION WITH OREGANO.  It is extremely hot. 

                                  Cardiovascular Support

                                  Application:

                                  Dilute 1:1 ratio with a carrier on affected area. Diffuse throughout the day as needed.

                                  • In addition, dilute oil(s) of choice and massage into affected area before exercising and before sleep. 

                                  Chapped Lips or Skin

                                  This is often a direct result of the gut flora being overrun with harmful bacteria (often called candida or yeast).  Be sure to see the "Candida" tab as well for further info. 

                                  Singles: Geranium (possess the unique ability to target the overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the body without also wiping out the good bacteria), German Chamomile, Lavender, Myrrh, Frankincense

                                  Application: 

                                  • Blend 2 drops Geranium and 2 drops German Chamomile together. 
                                  • Dilute in 10 mL (two teaspoons) of an organic balm, aloe gel, or even a basic carrier oil. 
                                  • Apply as needed. 

                                  Chilblains

                                  Application:

                                  • Use one drop neat of Geranium (that's undiluted) on the affected area twice daily for two days.  
                                  • Blend together 5 drops Geranium, 1 drop Lavender, and 1 drop Rosemary.
                                  • Dilute by adding several drops of the blend into aloe gel or a carrier oil. 
                                  • Apply several times daily as needed. 

                                          Cholesterol

                                              Convalescence

                                              During this time of gradual recovery from an illness, injury, or operation, care should be taken to use oils or blends that the convalescent particularly likes.  They will appreciate this attentive care and can find their spirits lifted greatly with the help of essential oils.  

                                              Do not limit yourself to this list, as they are just suggestions, but be sure to inquire of your patient as to what oils he or she prefers.  These are suggestions of oils that have a universal appeal.

                                                • Use Armor, Jr., dilute Immunity Blend, or blend equal amounts of Eucalyptus, Thyme, and Lavender together and dilute 5 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil.  Apply diluted oil blend of choice over chest and back (over the lungs) several times daily.

                                                          Topical Application:

                                                          • Dilute the blend or oil(s) of choice in 30 mL (2 Tbs) carrier oil and apply a small amount daily over the lower abdomen, hips, and upper and lower back.
                                                          • DIY Blend:  10 drops Lavender, 10 drops Tea Tree, 5 drops German Chamomile, 5 drops Cypress, 5 drops Thyme.  
                                                          • If you do not have the oils to make this blend, just select several oils that you have on hand and blend a few drops of each together.  It is best to use them in the order listed.  Dilute and follow daily application listed above. 

                                                          Internal Application:

                                                          "Cystitis (urinary tract infection) responds quickly to 1 to 3 drops of essential oil in a glass of water.... can be drunk repeatedly during the day.  In the beginning of an acute condition, this can be done every 20 minutes and symptoms will diminish quickly.  Then the frequency of consumption of the tea tree drink can be reduced.  Treating cystitis with Tea Tree oil is highly effective.  Nonetheless, if the cystitis is recurrent, diet or lifestyle changes may be required for a full resolution." -Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.                                                           [Geranium] is not linked - as is the case with many other oils - to an antibacterial effect; this means geranium acts against yeast without affecting bacterial flora." - Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D. (3)

                                                            Dandruff

                                                            A wide range of oils can be used to successfully tackle dandruff, so it should be easy for you to select something you already have on hand.  Apple cider vinegar has produced great results where dandruff is concerned, and when combined with essential oils, it makes an outstanding remedy. 

                                                            Bear in mind that this won't happen overnight; it may take a little while for the scalp to recover from dandruff.  Dandruff can stem from parasites, Candida, chemicals, as well as allergies.  You may do well to visit your naturopath to determine the underlying cause.

                                                            Blends: Clarify, DIY Blends listed below in Application section

                                                            Singles: Rosemary, Tea Tree, Geranium, Eucalyptus Radiata, Cedarwood, Basil, Peppermint, Lavender, Cypress, Juniper Berry

                                                            Application:

                                                            • Add 20 drops of essential oil(s) of choice (or make a blend of several) to approximately 3.5 oz of shampoo.
                                                            • DIY Blend: 10 drops Rosemary, 3 drops Eucalyptus, 5 drops Tea Tree, 4 drops Geranium.  Add this blend to 3.5 oz of shampoo.  Natural and fragrance free shampoo is best.  
                                                            • Apple Cider Essential Oil Blend: In a 4 oz spray bottle, combine 2 oz apple cider vinegar with the mother, 4 drops Thyme, 6 drops Tea Tree, and 5 drops Lavender, and 2 oz filtered water.  Spray this on to the scalp (not the hair) and massage it in well (watch out for your eyes) before bed nightly. 
                                                            • Overnight Conditioning Repair Blend: 1 tsp raw & organic coconut oil, 1 tsp jojoba oil, 5 drops Cypress, 7 drops Juniper Berry, 3 drops Lavender.  Massage a small amount of this blend directly into the scalp (not the hair).  This makes a little less than a half ounce.  Multiply this as needed if you wish to make up several ounces to keep on hand. 

                                                              Dementia

                                                              Dementia is neurodegenerative disease that can be disheartening to all those involved, especially in the "social distancing" world that many are dealing with today.  A person struggling with dementia will typically repeat a story or piece of information over and over, unbeknownst to themselves.  Similarly, they may repeatedly ask the same question not knowing they have just asked it a moment before and been given an answer already. 

                                                              Short term memory is often affected the most and can be near completely absent.  Because circulatory conditions are correlated to dementia in the elderly, improving circulation (and of course, nutrition) may help to delay dementia's progression.

                                                              The connection between the sense of smell, the mind, and the memory provides a wondrous benefit in this scenario.  The brain (and thereby the memories stored there) can be "reached" by the aroma of essential oils that are connected to previous memories of happy times.  Perhaps cinnamon or ginger essential oil evokes the happy memories of baking ginger bread during the holidays, or ylang ylang brings about memories of one's first perfume fragrance.  Maybe lemon sparks the memory of making fresh squeezed lemonade in the summer or lavender reminds one of the fresh linens on wash day when the children were small. 

                                                              Even if you can't get an essential oil that embodies every aspect of a happy memory, don't worry.  The limbic system of the brain will remember even just one aroma and connect it to the occasion.  This sort of approach can help "exercise" the memory and keep it more "active" on a normal, or even daily, basis.   

                                                              In conclusion, aside from the oils listed below, choosing your own oils with regard to the aromas that may activate your loved one's "memory bank" (limbic system) can prove extremely helpful.  Take some time to think through what oils may be the best fit and be sure to include several of those in your protocol.

                                                              Deodorant

                                                                Depression

                                                                Depression can come in many forms and can be brought on by many different triggers - trauma, unwanted changes, stresses of life, etc. Some oils are more effective than others when it comes to specific types of depression.  If you are unsure which type you are facing, the "General" category at the bottom of this list is a great starting place.  

                                                                It is also worth mentioning here that Kurt Schaubelt, Ph. D. says that a single drop of Frankincense taken orally may help with immunodeficiency and depression. (4. p. 133). Please, of course, only attempt this under the care of your physician. 

                                                                Agitated or Anxious Depression Blend: fidgeting, can't sit still, racing mind, eye problems, pressure headaches, easily angered, possible heart palpitations, irrational over minor issues, constant fretting, rapid mood swings, workaholic to cover feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness.

                                                                Dysmenorrhea - Painful Menstruation

                                                                The pain a woman experiences during her monthly cycle can range from dull, spasmodic aches to debilitating, violent cramping.  Whatever the case may be, avoiding constipation during this time is crucial.  This remedy will cover congestive pain (this is an all-over pain that can cover the entire abdominal area and starts several days before bleeding begins), spasmodic pain, and intense cramping.

                                                                    Ear Ache (Infection)

                                                                    • Place two drops Eucalyptus Radiata neat (undiluted) on a bit of a cotton ball. Insert the cotton gently into the ear canal.  This may be especially helpful overnight when sleep can become difficult due to pain. 
                                                                    • Dilute oil(s) of choice and apply around the outside of ear (in front of ear and behind ear on mastoid bone) and down to the base of the neck.
                                                                    • AVOID DAIRY

                                                                    Ears - Ringing - Hearing Impairment - Tinnitus

                                                                    Eczema

                                                                    • DIY Endometriosis Hot Sitz Bath Blend: Blend together 12 drops Geranium, 6 drops Rose absolute, 3 drops Cypress, 6 drops Helichrysum, 3 drops Nutmeg, 6 drops Clary Sage.  Use this blend as indicated in the method that follows.  (1, p. 215)

                                                                    Sitz Bath Method:

                                                                      1. Use the warmest waist deep water you can stand without burning.  Add 5 drops of this blend to the water and sit for 2 min.
                                                                      2. Immediately switch to a bath of cold water in a separate tub that you have prepared beforehand (an old fashioned galvanized tub, a baby bath tub, a dishwashing bowl, etc). The cold sitz does not need oils, only 2 tsp rosewater.
                                                                      3. Switch from the hot bath to the cold. 
                                                                      4. Remaining for 2 minutes in each bath constitutes a "cycle".  Three to five cycles per session is ideal. 

                                                                      *Do not use the sitz bath method if you have high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, arteriosclerosis, or any heart condition.

                                                                      Energy

                                                                      Obviously this remedy would need to be under the care of your physician.  The diet, in particular, is of key importance here.  Avoid highly processed foods, refined carbs (syrups, carbonated sodas, candies, white rice, bread, etc.), all forms of sugar, artificial sweeteners and artificial flavors.

                                                                        • The person may then follow with a warm bath if the fainting is a result of fatigue or exhaustion.  Do not leave the person alone in this case.  Add 2 drops Roman Chamomile, 1 drop Lavender, and 1 drop Geranium to the bath.  *Also see "Fatigue" tab.  Diffusing Pine and Lavender is also helpful in this case. 

                                                                        Fatigue 

                                                                        Persistent fatigue should really be a discussion topic for your naturopath doctor.  As there are number of causes, we will not go into great detail here, but it would do well to consider that leaky gut, the thyroid, and the adrenals are often involved.

                                                                        Fever

                                                                        Hydration is of the utmost importance when the body is feverish.  But that is fairly common knowledge.  Let's discuss a bit of info that is less commonly known.

                                                                        All immune processes are fueled by calcium.  That sounds simple enough, but the gravity of that piece of info is weightier than we might realize at first.  If we know that calcium is absolutely essential for immune function, wouldn't we want to give our bodies an ample supply of it at the first onset of a fever?

                                                                        Fever is a sign that the body is lacking calcium lactate, which is used in the healing process.  As calcium lactate is found in the bones, fever is the intelligent evidence of the body's resourcefulness.  It must use what it has access to for its repair work.  The body will become feverish so that it can remove the calcium lactate from the bones and re-station it to be utilized by the immune system.  

                                                                        While essential oils can help, you want to make sure you are giving it all the commodities it needs to respond to whatever invader is causing the problem.  Taking a pure, unadulterated calcium lactate supplement is of vital importance, in addition to Vitamin C for absorption of the calcium.  We recommend using Standard Process' Calcium Lactate and Cataplex C.  For local pickup, contact Stephanie Fuller at Fuller Options

                                                                        We feel that it is important to mention here the research from Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D., on this subject. 

                                                                        He lists internal/oral application of Frankincense and German Chamomile and goes on to say, "The internal application of German Chamomile during the acute stages of flu is useful because it detoxifies the metabolic wastes from pathogenic microorganisms." (5. p. 233)

                                                                                  Fungal Skin Infections - Skin Candida - Ringworm

                                                                                  This remedy applies for both ringworm and skin candida. 

                                                                                  Where Candida is concerned, we will be aiming to eliminate the yeast and rebuild healthy skin tissue.  Aside from remedying this particular issue, it would be wise to consider the diet and the use of antibiotics in the future.  You will likely experience nausea and or headaches as the yeast dies off.

                                                                                  This is a process, so please be prepared to access the deep wells of patience that God gave you.  Or the shallow wells.  Either way, bring what you've got because this is not an overnight fix.  Though it is a mighty effective one.   Do your best to stay consistent for at least 14 days and see if you don't have some noticeable results.

                                                                                  2. Days 5-14+: Choose a blend listed above or blend together 3 drops Eucalyptus Radiata, 3 drops Geranium, 1 drop Tea Tree, 3 drops Vetiver and 2 drops Patchouli.  Dilute the essential oil blend at a 1:1 ratio in a carrier and apply twice daily.  (If you don't particularly like the smell of this blend, you may adjust the amounts of the oils listed until you come to something you like.  Be sure to dilute the essential oils at a 1:1 ratio in a carrier.)
                                                                                  3. If you are particularly short on time and cannot follow steps 1 and 2 above, at a minimum, make sure you apply your selected blend diluted at a 1:1 ratio in a carrier on the affected area twice daily.  
                                                                                  4. For more severe cases, Tea Tree can be used neat on the affected area 2-3 times daily.  Geranium can be substituted if you do not have Tea Tree on hand. 

                                                                                  Gallbladder

                                                                                            General Headache

                                                                                            Blend together equal mounts of two or three of the above listed oils.  Dilute this blend with a carrier at a 1:1 ratio.  Apply several drops of the diluted blend along the hairline, begin at the temples and follow the hairline down and around to the base of the skull. 

                                                                                            Gastric Headache

                                                                                            This is typically caused by eating foods that don't digest well; food sensitivities or allergies may be one cause, while poor food combinations may be another.

                                                                                            Singles: Cardamom, Rosemary, Peppermint, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Ginger, Basil 

                                                                                            Application Options (choose one):

                                                                                            1. Dilute Tummy Troubles and apply over the upper abdomen.
                                                                                            2. Blend 1 drop Rosemary, 1 drop Lavender, and 2 drops Peppermint together.  Diffuse this blend, use the steam inhalation method*, or dilute in a carrier at a 1:1 ratio and apply on the back of the neck.  
                                                                                            3. Add a drop of Cardamom essential oil to a teaspoon of raw, local honey.  Dissolve this into 3 ounces of warm water.  Filter through a disposable coffee filter and then add 2 tsp of the mixture to a small (6 oz or less) mug of warm water.  This may be sipped over the next few minutes to alleviate the gastric headache.  Have another cup of your "Cardamom & Honey Water" if you find that it helps and you need a bit more relief.   

                                                                                            *Steam Inhalation Method:

                                                                                              • Bring a small pot of water to a boil. 
                                                                                              • While you wait for it to boil, don't watch the pot! ;-)
                                                                                              • Once it boils, remove from heat and add 3-5 drops of your Selah Essential Oil Blend or 3-5 drops of the blend you mixed yourself. 
                                                                                              • Position your head over the pot, cover your head and the pot with a towel, close your eyes, and inhale the steam for a minimum of 10 minutes.

                                                                                                Let's be real here, if you have ever birthed a kid, you have probably dealt with this.  Or if you have ever lifted anything heavy.  Or if you have ever been a human for about a half a minute.  Or if you are a guy, because hemorrhoids are actually more common in men than women.  So while this topic can be embarrassing, we can probably all agree that it is ridiculously common and needs to be addressed. 

                                                                                                The following blend is literally magic in a bottle.  If you or someone you know is suffering from hemorrhoids, be a good person and mix up a bottle of this.  They will love you forever.  Trust us on this.  We know.  Just don't ask us how.  ;-)

                                                                                                • If possible, applying about 1/2 mL of this diluted blend internally (and we don't mean orally...) with the use of a small syringe (like a 1mL dosing syringe) will produce the most effective and quickest results. 
                                                                                                • Other DIY Blends:
                                                                                                  • 30 drops Lavender and 20 drops Helichrysum.  Dilute 1:1 with a carrier or aloe vera gel.  
                                                                                                  • 10 drops Cypress, 10 drops Geranium, 10 drops Patchouli, 20 drops Helichrysum.  Dilute 1:1 with a carrier or aloe vera gel. 

                                                                                                When treating hemorrhoids, aloe vera gel makes a good base for the essential oils, which can be self-administered. Spending 10 minutes in a sitz bath with essential oils (blended first in a little honey and hot water or an emulsifier [epsom salt]) is also useful, as is a compress... Phlebotonic essential oils which help to relieve hemorrhoids and varicose veins are: neroli, lemon, grapefruit, cypress, geranium, tea tree, cajuput, niaouli, spikenard and patchouli (6. p. 242).

                                                                                                Hepatitis

                                                                                                • Oral Ingestion: According to the research and testing in The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils by Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D., essential oils of Ravintsara, Carrot Seed, Helichrysum, Ledum, and Bay Laurel were given orally for one week each month.  During this testing, it was noted that the antiviral activity was correlated to the dose of essential oils.  The dosage was Ravintsara at 5 drops, Ledum at 3 drops and 1 drop of a third oil [options listed above], alternating the third oil every couple of months.  When the dosage was increased to three times daily, the viral load diminished. Selah's Gall-Liver Blend offers a great line-up of oils to assist with this and can be taken by mouth if your practitioner deems it appropriate.  The other oils listed above are also 100% pure and can be taken by mouth if your practitioner deems it appropriate. Dissolving the oils in a teaspoon of honey with an ounce of water makes a fine delivery method.  Oils may also be dropped straight from the dropper bottle into a gel capsule and taken with water. (4. p. 199-201)
                                                                                                • Topical: Dilute oil(s) of choice at a 1:1 ratio in a carrier and apply 1-3 drops over carotid arteries (on either side of the throat just under the jaw bone on either side), or over the liver area, and/or bottoms of feet. 
                                                                                                • Topical: Also apply as a warm compress over the liver area up to twice daily. 

                                                                                                Herpes Simplex - Cold Sores - Fever Blisters

                                                                                                Herpes Zoster - Shingles

                                                                                                This particular issue will be most wonderfully remedied if you can get your hands on some of these oils and start using them at the first signs on onset.  Essential oils make a fantastic remedy for this issue.

                                                                                                  Hiccups

                                                                                                  Place a single drop of essential oil of choice in a brown paper bag.  Hold the bag over the nose and mouth and inhale deeply and slowly through the nose. 

                                                                                                  Hives

                                                                                                  Occurring in response to an allergen that you have either encountered or swallowed, Hives can leave you frustrated and irritable.  This remedy will assist the body in calming the allergic reaction and soothing the skin, but be advised to avoid the allergen in the future if at all possible.  Potential allergens could include: food (see our "Allergies" tab for more on this), pollen, insect bite/sting, medication, environmental irritants, detergent, etc.

                                                                                                            • If the bite/sting is not on a particularly tender or delicate part of your skin, then you may also add 1 drop of Oregano in place of one drop of Eucalyptus radiata.  Oregano is very strong and can burn the skin; do not use Oregano on small children or tender areas of the skin, such as the face or personal areas.
                                                                                                            • Of course, oil and water do not mix, but do your best to swirl this together and use it to cleanse the area. 

                                                                                                          Insect Bite or Sting - Spider

                                                                                                          Blend together 6 drops Lavender and 3 drops Roman Chamomile in 2 teaspoons alcohol. Apply this to the area several times throughout the next 24 hours. 

                                                                                                          Lethal

                                                                                                          The Black Widow and the Brown Recluse are two of the most lethal spiders in North America.  It is certainly advised to educate yourself on how to identify these particular spiders.  In the case that you or someone you know is bit by one of these, seek emergency medical help immediately.

                                                                                                          • Apply 1 drop neat of Thyme linalol or Oregano to the tick to remove it if it is still attached.  Never rip ticks out! Alternatively, light a match, lett it get nice and hot, and then blowing it out.  Use the very hot end and apply to the butt of the tick until the heat makes him let go on his own.  Repeat this if needed until it lets go.  You do not want any part of the tick left inside your skin.
                                                                                                          • Apply 1 drop of Thyme (undiluted) to the bite to detox the area.  Follow this by 1 drop of Lavender (undiluted) to the bit to reduce pain and prevent infection.  Repeat after 5 minutes.  Use this remedy as often as needed until the bite heals. 
                                                                                                          • Alternatively, apply 1 drop of Cleanse to detox the area.  Then apply 1 drop neat of Breeze or Peppermint every 5 minutes for an hour to reduce pain and prevent infection. 

                                                                                                          Insect Repellent

Repeat as needed.
                                                                                                                • Alternatively, you may add 2 drops of the above blend to a teaspoon of raw organic honey, agave, or maple syrup and dissolve this in a cup of warm water.  Sip slowly over the next ffew minutes.
                                                                                                                • For topical application: Dilute Clarify or use the pre-diluted Armor, Jr. and apply over the throat, behind the ears, and on the bottoms of the feet.
                                                                                                                • Alternatively, for topical application you may blend 5 drops Roman Chamomile, 2 drops Lemon, and 1 drop Thyme linalol. Dilute with a carrier and apply over the throat, behind the ears, and on the bottoms of the feet. 
                                                                                                                • For inhalation: Diffuse Cleanse Blend neat or apply a drop to a cotton ball or tissue and inhale.

                                                                                                                  • DIY Blend if Lice are Present: Combine 12 drops each of Lavender, Geranium, and Rosemary.  (Tea Tree is an effective addition as well.)  Add this blend to 3 oz of ale ver gel.  Apply to the hair and leave in overnight (or all day if you will be home).  Wash out the next morning with shampoo and warm water. 
                                                                                                                  • You may use the above blend of oils and add to 3 oz shampoo rather than aloe.  Use this to wash the hair on day 1-3 and again on days 8-10 a the eggs take eight days to hatch. 
                                                                                                                  • Preventative DIY Blend: Combine 1 drop each of Rosemary, Lavender, and Lemon with 16 oz of warm water.  Use this to rinse the hair after the final shampooing. Not to be used daily, but only intermittently. 
                                                                                                                  • Dilute oil(s) of choice as recommended and apply to scalp and bottoms of feet 3 times daily.  You may want to do this on a day that you will be home as it does take quite a bit of time.  Use the above blend to add to shampoo and wash the hair at the end of the day.

                                                                                                                          It almost goes without saying - prevention is of the utmost importance here.  Our Mosquito Repellent offers fantastic assistance in this area.  Also, Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) gives nearly complete protection from Anopheles culicifacies (mosquitos known to be a main carry of malaria) for up to eleven hours - this reported by Ansari/Raxdan.

                                                                                                                          "The highest repellency effect was identified from Ligusticum sinense extract, followed by citronella, pineDalbergia sissoo, peppermint and Rhizophora mucronata oils with complete protection time ranging from 9.1 to 11.5 h. Furthermore, essential oils from plants such as lavender, camphor, catnip, geranium, jasmine, broad-leaved eucalyptus, lemongrass, lemon-scented eucalyptus, amyris, narrow-leaved eucalyptus, carotin, cedarwood, chamomile, cinnamon oil, juniper, cajeput, soya bean, rosemary, niaouli, olive, tagetes, violet, sandalwood, litsea, galbanum, and Curcuma longa [turmeric] also showed good repellency with 8 h complete repellency against different species of Anopheles. Essential oils and extracts of some plants could be formulated for the development of eco-friendly repellents against Anopheles species. Plant oils may serve as suitable alternatives to synthetic repellents in the future as they are relatively safe, inexpensive, and are readily available in many parts of the world." -BioMed Central Malaria Journal

                                                                                                                          Menorrhagia includes irregular periods, clotting during menstruation, heavy bleeding during menstruation, or irregular bleeding during menstruation.  These symptoms can indicate a real issue, though they are often just thought to be a normal part of womanhood.  Everyone is different, but your cycle should have some routine normalcy to it.  We advise a consultation with your physician to further asses the issue. 

                                                                                                                          The Ten-Week Trial Period:

                                                                                                                          When you have selected your blend (options listed below), you will want to use if for ten weeks and then take a two week break to evaluate its effect.  If you do not select a Selah blend from the list below then try mixing a few oils together to make your own blend.  Find something that you really like the aroma of - that usually means that your body needs it.  

                                                                                                                          Begin using your blend the day following the last day of a period and use it through two complete cycles (even while on your cycle).  Then continue for two more weeks.  A this point you will take a two week break to evaluate your body's response to the blend you have chosen.  If you notice improvements in the symptoms, then you can continue on with this blend by using it for a few days around the time of ovulation.

                                                                                                                          If there has been no lessening of symptoms after these ten weeks, then adjust your blend and try again.

                                                                                                                              Of all the joys of motherhood, I know this can really be nature's most powerful contraceptive.  No seriously, it's what kept me from having my babies closer together.  I just couldn't commit to a repeat so soon after being so sick.  And boy was I ever sick.  Just nine longs months of nausea.  So hang in there, Mama.  I get it.  By the time I was expecting baby number three, thank the Lord, He helped me get some things figured out.  Here's what helped me get to a place of no nausea on a daily basis!!

                                                                                                                              Standard Process makes a product called Phosfood Liquid.  I know everybody is different, but that stuff was worth its weight in GOLD for me.  It stopped my nausea in its tracks when nothing else would.  I would take 10-20 drops in about 2 ounces of water first thing every morning and then again if I felt nauseous throughout the day.                                                                                                                                             Nose Bleed

                                                                                                                                              Parasites often come out of winter dormancy during the full moon in March.  The old sayings of March being the month of the "Worm Moon" really do have some merit to them.  Parasites can be particularly challenging to completely eradicate.  A trip to the Naturopath may be something to consider for additional supplemental support. 

                                                                                                                                              Parasites are often active around 2-4 am - so if you find yourself waking or having fitful sleep during those early morning hours, it may be time to do what our grandparents did once a month and worm yourself!  ;-)  Those old timers had some wisdom about them that I don't think we should take for granted. 

                                                                                                                                              And, contrary to popular belief, parasites are relatively easy to pick up.  You don't have to eat dirt to contract a parasite.  Though that does help!  If you are a mammal (which you are) and if you have ever stepped foot outside (which I'm sure you have) then you've come into contact with potential parasites.  And just as all mammals need a good monthly wormer to stay worm-free, our bodies could greatly benefit from that support as well.  

                                                                                                                                              The most effective way to fight parasites with essential oils is by using them internally, but we would never recommend such a thing unless you check with your physician first.  If he deems it appropriate, then by all means, grab an oil and get after it.  Application method listed below.

                                                                                                                                                  Pink Eye - Conjunctivitis

                                                                                                                                                  This process takes a while, but can be well worth the patience.  Mix 1 teaspoon witch hazel with 1 drop Roman Chamomile essential oil.  Add in 2 tablespoons of rose water and let it sit for a minimum of seven hours.  See... patience...  Now that you've grown in virtue, strain the blend through a disposable coffee filter.  Soak a gauze pad and use as a cold compress on the eyelids.  You will want to keep your eyes CLOSED. 

                                                                                                                                                  Here are a couple of additional home remedies that you may benefit from if you do not have seven hours... or the patience to wait that long.  :-D.

                                                                                                                                                  1. A drop or two of  high quality colloidal silver in the affected eye a few times daily will help immensely. 
                                                                                                                                                  2. The remedy of the "olden days" is the most cost effective, but takes the most courage.  Squeeze the juice of half a fresh organic lemon into a cup.  Drip a single drop from the tip of your finger into the affected eye.  You will think you have blinded yourself.  But not to worry, your sight won't be damaged and if you have the stomach to repeat this application two to three times daily, the pink eye will be gone in about 48 hours.  NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN... OR THE FAINT OF HEART.

                                                                                                                                                  Pneumonia

                                                                                                                                                    • He also states that "one or two drops will deliver the full pharmacological effect that can be gained from any given oil." (5. p. 223)  
                                                                                                                                                    • We realize that this is pneumonia, not the flu, that you are remedying here, but we thought that the knowledge of using oils internally for a similar issue may help you.  Of course, you should only try this under the directive of your physician. 
                                                                                                                                                    • If your physician deems it necessary, you may take 2 drops of oil from the list above twice daily for 10 days. 
                                                                                                                                                  • Topical: Dilute oils of choice and apply over lungs, throat, and bottoms of feet. 
                                                                                                                                                  • Topical: Dilute oils of choice and apply as a warm compress over the neck, chest, and upper back (you are aiming to cover both the front and back of the lungs) three times daily. 
                                                                                                                                                  • Inhalation: Diffuse (undiluted) at 15 minute intervals throughout the day or place 1 drop onto a cotton ball, tissue, or pillow and inhale deeply.  Alternating oils is best, but not necessarily every single time.  Just once daily would work. Or even have an A day blend and a B day blend.  Use a certain protocol of oils on day A and then the other protocol on day B.  
                                                                                                                                                  • Inhalation: Diffuse throughout the night while sleeping. 
                                                                                                                                                  • Steam Inhalation:

                                                                                                                                                    • DIY Blend: add 7 drops Lavender, 7 drops Roman Chamomile, and 6 drops Eucalyptus to a teaspoon of alcohol or vodka.  Shake this into a healthy sized cup of filtered water.  Add a splash to the affected area.  Repeat as needed. 
                                                                                                                                                    • Bath: Add 4 drops Lavender and 4 drops Eucalyptus to a warm bath.
                                                                                                                                                    • Baking Soda Bath: Add 4 drops Lavender to a cup of baking soda and combine well BEFORE adding to the bath. 

                                                                                                                                                    Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) & Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

                                                                                                                                                    As the sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone) fluctuate, women's bodies respond in a range of ways.  The shift in the sex hormones affects the other natural chemicals of the body as well (serotonin being one of them) and can create quite a delicate situation in the body and mind of women as their monthly cycle approaches.  

                                                                                                                                                    The symptoms of this hormone related condition can vary quite widely from person to person. Symptoms can begin as early as 14 days before the cycle starts and may continue even several days into menstruation.  The symptoms of PMS include mood swings, headaches, fatigue, bloating, cramps, breast swelling or tenderness, sugar or carb cravings, chocolate cravings, lower back pain, oily skin and hair, acne, confusion, irritability, anxiety, depression, memory loss, panic attacks, irrational thinking, apathy, sleeping problems, and feeling completely out of control. 

                                                                                                                                                    If you are experiencing any of those symptoms, you might be wondering how on earth you can possibly know if they are stemming from PMS or some other cause.  I mean, how do you tell if your headache is coming from stress, an allergen in the air, or that monthly visit from Aunt Flo that is still two weeks away? 

                                                                                                                                                    Women who suffer through a more severe amount of physical and emotional symptoms of PMS may more accurately be enduring what is called premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD.  These women may find this information on essential oils to be helpful, but even more so, we hope they find a bit of truth here.  PMDD is something we can absolutely work on and get great results.  Many women with PMDD may not have a diagnoses or enough info to learn of their condition, thus they can only assume that there is something dreadfully wrong with them.  As in, they think that perhaps they have serious psychological problems.  

                                                                                                                                                    Let me assure you that this is more common than you think and that essential oils have demonstrated an ability to establish hormonal homeostasis. Three oils in particular, (Sage, Fennel, and Clary Sage) have the capability to improve the balance between estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. 

                                                                                                                                                    Deciding if your symptoms are a result of PMS/PMDD can be challenging, as many of the symptoms can also be related to other health issues.  However, a major benefit of using essential oils to assist the healing process is the incredible versatility that oils offer the body.  Essential oils don't target just one or two issues, as man-made drugs do.  They offer a seemingly endless range of benefits to the human body, with more being discovered each year through scientific studies and research. 

                                                                                                                                                    We see evidence of the beautiful versatility that essential oils offer quite often when our customers write in to express their unexpected surprise over the improvements in areas of their health that they were not actually targeting. 

                                                                                                                                                    So don't fret too long over the source of each little symptom.  If you suspect PMS at all, go ahead and take action.  Balancing your hormones with essential oils is honestly one of the best places to start.  When our hormones are balanced, we can tackle so many things that we otherwise couldn't even begin to try.  But be warned - you'll likely see firsthand the wondrous range of results that essential oils offer!  An oil that you select to help balance your hormones may also help you sleep better and wake feeling more rested.  Or it may give you the energy during the day that you have been missing.  Or it may even help with those stress-headaches that stem from the demands of life as a woman in this modern world. 

                                                                                                                                                    So gear up and take aim here at this issue - select a blend or mix a few oils together to make your own blend.  Find something that you really like the aroma of - that usually means that your body needs it.  ;-)  But don't be surprised if you find that essential oils end up helping balance your body in other unexpected ways as well! 

                                                                                                                                                    The Ten-Week Trial Period:

                                                                                                                                                    When you have selected your blend, you will want to use if for ten weeks and then take a two week break to evaluate its effect.  Begin using your blend the day following the last day of a period and use it through two complete cycles (even while on your cycle).  Then continue for two more weeks.  A this point you will take a two week break to evaluate your body's response to the blend you have chosen.  If you notice improvements in the PMS symptoms, then you can continue on with this blend by using it for a few days around the time of ovulation.

                                                                                                                                                    If there has been no lessening of symptoms after these ten weeks, then adjust your blend and try again.

                                                                                                                                                          Raynaud's Disease

                                                                                                                                                          This remedy can be approached in two different ways.  Either will use hand and foot baths. 

                                                                                                                                                          Route A: You may use one of the Selah blends listed below or create your own from the list of Singles.  If you prefer the aroma of any particular oils from the list, don't be afraid to use those as you create your own blend.  Then just follow the application method below.  

                                                                                                                                                          Route B:  Create both of the DIY blends listed in the Application section below.  You will be alternating them weekly.

                                                                                                                                                          • Keep two bottles of whichever blend you have chosen.  One bottle will need to be undiluted, while the other will need to be diluted by adding 15 drops of the blend to 15mL of carrier oil (we will call this diluted bottle your massage oil). 
                                                                                                                                                          • Dilute 3-4 drops of the blend in a teaspoon (5mL) of carrier oil and add to a warm hand or foot bath depending on which part of the body is most affected.  The water should not be so hot that it is uncomfortable.  This should be done in the early morning and before bed.  
                                                                                                                                                          • After the bath, apply the massage oil and massage gently over the affected areas.  
                                                                                                                                                          • If you are experiencing extreme pain in the fingers or toes: add 25 drops of Geranium to the 15mL bottle of massage oil.  Use this blend in a cautious amount for the first two weeks. 
                                                                                                                                                          • DIY Blend - Week 1: 2 drops Ginger, 2 drops Rosemary, 2 drops Clove, 6 drops Lavender, 15 drops Geranium, 3 drops Black Pepper.  Be sure to alternate to Blend 2 every other week. 
                                                                                                                                                          • DIY Blend - Week 2: 2 drops Clove, 2 drops Ginger, 5 drops Black Pepper, 15 drops Geranium, 8 drops Cardamom.  Be sure to alternate to Blend 1 every other week. 
                                                                                                                                                          • Follow this twice daily hand/foot bath and massage until the situation is remedied and relief arrives.

                                                                                                                                                                The manifestation of a respiratory infection of any sort in the body is the consequence of a depressed or weakened immune system.  Respiratory infections include the common cold (runny or stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, sneezing, itchy eyes, fever, etc.), bronchitis (mucus in lungs/chest), rhinitis (stuffy or runny nose), sinusitis (sinus pain, congestion, fever), tonsillitis (sore throat).  Although a weakened immune system is usually only temporary, we must be aware of the cause if we expect to have longterm freedom from respiratory infections.  While "germs" (viruses, bacteria, etc.) are ever-present and we are constantly in contact with them, our bodies are only affected (or infected as we might better state) when our immune system is weak.  A weakened immune system can stem from an unhealthy diet (think fast food, microwave dinners, Christmas cookies, etc.), lack of sleep, constant physical or psychological stress, alcohol abuse, age-related lack of sexual and adrenal hormones, overuse of antibiotics (which damage intestinal flora), and a damaged bronchial system (from multiple lung infections/issues).  

                                                                                                                                                                For essential oils to have a chance at averting a cold, they must be employed immediately, at the first symptom.  However, if the cold is "in full swing" before oils are introduced, the body will still benefit from them, symptoms will still be minimized, and recurrence will be discouraged as essential oils will assist the body by supporting immune health.  Essential oils not only target the microbes (virus, bacteria) that lend to the issue in the first place, but also improve the level of antibodies. 

                                                                                                                                                                Remember, our bodies were designed very well!  Your body knows what to do even when you don't - it is extremely smart!  Complete, healing often involves the body going through an infection for several days (not all colds can be avoided) so as to build antibodies and immunity.  The goal in holistic (whole body) health, however, is not to avoid every minor health issue, but to build a strong and optimally functioning immune system. 

                                                                                                                                                                When selecting essential oils for immune support, be sure to alternate between at least two different blends as this is most effective.

(5. p. 233)
                                                                                                                                                                  • He also states that "one or two drops will deliver the full pharmacological effect that can be gained from any given oil." (5. p. 223)  
                                                                                                                                                                  • Of course, please only attempt this under the care of your physician. 
                                                                                                                                                                  • If your physician deems it necessary, you may take 2 drops of oil from the list above twice daily for 10 days. This would be best done by taking the oils in a capsule or a teaspoon of honey or agave.  
                                                                                                                                                                • Steam Inhalation:
                                                                                                                                                                  • Bring a small pot of water to a boil. 
                                                                                                                                                                  • While you wait for it to boil, don't watch the pot! ;-)
                                                                                                                                                                  • Once it boils, remove from heat and add several drops of your Selah Essential Oil Blend of choice (Armor or Clarify recommended) or add the following: 1 drop each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and 2 drops each of Rosemary and Cardamom
                                                                                                                                                                  • Position your head over the pot, cover your head and the pot with a towel, close your eyes, and inhale the steam for a minimum of 10 minutes. 
                                                                                                                                                                  • Do this several times daily as needed. 
                                                                                                                                                                • Diffuse (undiluted) into the air or apply 1 drop to a cotton ball or tissue and breathe deeply.  Alternating oils/blends is most effective.

                                                                                                                                                                              Inhalation of the essential oil is the most immediate way to get results. Diffuse into the air as often as needed. For topical application, dilute oil of choice and apply to the back of neck, inside of the elbows, bottoms of the feet. In addition, you can put 1-2 drops in bath water.

                                                                                                                                                                              If you feel an anxiety or panic attack coming on, it is very important to get one of the blends or single oils listed here into your system immediately.  Inhalation is best.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Prevention during Pregnancy:

                                                                                                                                                                                    • DIY Blend: In 2 tsp of Sweet Almond Oil, add a single drop of Frankincense, Lavender, Patchouli, and Lemongrass.  Apply to expanding belly every morning and night as well as the upper thighs. 
                                                                                                                                                                                    • Alternatively, you may apply Soft, Jr. Spray as is to the belly and upper thighs each morning and night.
                                                                                                                                                                                    • For a third option, you may add 4 drops of Soft (neat) to 2 tsp Sweet Almond Oil and apply as above. 

                                                                                                                                                                                  Repair:

                                                                                                                                                                                  Blends: Soft

                                                                                                                                                                                  Singles: Lavender, Frankincense, Geranium, Myrrh, Patchouli

                                                                                                                                                                                  Application:

                                                                                                                                                                                    1. Blend together 8 drops each of Lavender, Frankincense, and Patchouli.
                                                                                                                                                                                    2. Add this blend to 75mL of Sweet Almond Oil and another 25 mL carrier oil of choice (Avocado, Jojoba, etc.)
                                                                                                                                                                                    3. Store this blend in a glass container with a lid and apply on location each morning and evening.  Be consistent - this takes time and repeated application. 

                                                                                                                                                                                      Sunburn

                                                                                                                                                                                      Blends: After Sun Spray

                                                                                                                                                                                      Singles: Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Roman Chamomile

                                                                                                                                                                                      Application:

                                                                                                                                                                                      • Shake the After Sun Spray well and apply liberally on location as needed.
                                                                                                                                                                                      • Alternatively, you may make your own spray blend in this way: blend 8 drops Lavender, 8 drops Roman Chamomile, and 8 drops Peppermint with a tablespoon of fractionated carrier oil.  Blend this into 1/4 cup aloe vera juice and 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons distilled water.  This will make approximately 8 oz, which you can put into a spray bottle (glass or stainless, not plastic) and spray on the affected area as needed.  Just not the eyes.  ;-)

                                                                                                                                                                                          • Internal Application:
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D. lists Frankincense and German Chamomile to be taken internally/orally and then goes on to say, "The internal application of German Chamomile during acute stages of flu is useful because it detoxifies the metabolic wastes from pathogenic microorganisms." (5. p. 233)
                                                                                                                                                                                            • He also states that "one or two drops will deliver the full pharmacological effect that can be gained from any given oil." (5. p. 223)  This is listed here in the "Viral Infections" tab because this info is highly related to other viral issues. 
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Of course, please only attempt this under the care of your physician. 
                                                                                                                                                                                            • If your physician deems it necessary, you may take 2 drops of oil from the list above twice daily for 10 days. This would be best done by taking the oils in a capsule or a teaspoon of honey or agave.  
                                                                                                                                                                                          • Steam Inhalation:
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Bring a small pot of water to a boil. 
                                                                                                                                                                                            • While you wait for it to boil, don't watch the pot! ;-)
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Once it boils, remove from heat and add several drops of your Selah Essential Oil Blend of choice (Armor or Clarify recommended) or add the following: 1 drop each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and 2 drops each of Rosemary and Cardamom
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Position your head over the pot, cover your head and the pot with a towel, close your eyes, and inhale the steam for a minimum of 10 minutes. 
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Do this several times daily as needed. 
                                                                                                                                                                                          • Inhalation: Diffuse (undiluted) into the air or apply 1 drop to a cotton ball or tissue and breathe deeply.  Alternating oils/blends is most effective. 
                                                                                                                                                                                          • Topical: Dilute oil(s) of choice and apply several drops to throat, temples, forehead, back of neck, below nose, over the lungs on chest and back, or bottoms of feet. (Do not apply oils to the face of a child under 10 years old.)  Do this several times per day.  
                                                                                                                                                                                          • Topical: If you have someone available to help, it is also very beneficial to have them apply the diluted oil generously down your spine.

                                                                                                                                                                                            Wart

                                                                                                                                                                                            Other than being embarrassing, warts can be irritating and painful.  As warts are viral in nature, they can certainly spread to other locations on one's body ... or to other people. 

                                                                                                                                                                                            As individuals, we often respond differently to different oils.  One essential oil may produce great results for one person while seemingly doing nothing for another person.  This is why we have listed several oils here.  Use what you already have on hand, and if the first oil doesn't work, try the second or third one on the list. 

                                                                                                                                                                                            *If the affected person is under 12 years of age, it is important to dilute the essential oils beforehand.  In the case of treating warts, it is recommended to dilute your essential oils in apple cider vinegar for maximum effectiveness.

                                                                                                                                                                                            Blends: Clarify, Armor

                                                                                                                                                                                            Application:

                                                                                                                                                                                            • Apply 1 drop of oil (neat) to the center of the wart.  Try to be precise in your application and cautious not to touch the surrounding area.  You might even use a Q-Tip for application.
                                                                                                                                                                                            • Repeat this daily.  It may take a number of weeks to see your desired results, but be consistent.  This is an effective remedy.

                                                                                                                                                                                            Whitlows

                                                                                                                                                                                            Singles: Thyme linalol, Lemon, Geranium, Lavender, Roman Chamomile

                                                                                                                                                                                            Application: 

                                                                                                                                                                                            1. In beginning stages: Blend 1 drop Geranium, 2 drops Thyme linalol, and 3 drops Lemon together.  Apply 1 drop of this blend (neat) to the affected area.  Do this three times daily until any pus has been released.  Then move on to step two. 
                                                                                                                                                                                            2. If any pus has been released: Blend equal amounts of Lavender and Roman Chamomile together. Apply 1 drop of this blend (neat) three times daily to the affected area.

                                                                                                                                                                                              • DIY Face Lift in a Bottle Recipe: to a 1 oz spray bottle add 8 drops Frankincense, 8 drops Myrrh, 6 drops Geranium, 6 drops Helichrysum, and 4 drops Patchouli.  Then top off with Sweet Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil.  Shake well and apply on location twice daily.  Avoid applying too close to eye area.
