Tea Tree - First Aid in a Bottle

Would you cut a 5-acre lawn with scissors?  Would you use a Q-tip to scrub food burned out of the bottom of a pan?  What about a vitamin for a broken arm?  Okay yeah, these questions seem a little ridiculous.  Of course you wouldn't!  Why?  Because tough jobs call for tough products. Today I'd like to introduce you to a tough essential oil: Tea Tree.  It is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory, to name just a few of its powerful uses. (1) From household cleaner to infections to ringworm to cold sores, Tea Tree has a slew of uses. It is handy for the everyday little things, and for the out-of-the-ordinary tough jobs. (2)(4) Have you ever had that moment, where...

Ylang Ylang

Ever heard of Chanel No. 5?  The classic fragrance could cost you upwards of a hundred bucks for a single bottle!  And we juuust so happen to have one of the ingredients that goes into making that iconic perfume. (1) In fact, ylang ylang has such a sweet smell that this tropical flower offers one of the most commonly used fragrances in perfumes, colognes, cosmetics and soaps. (2) This "Queen of Perfumes" is also used in household cleansers, hair products and even... wait for it... candy and icings.  Crazy, right?? (3) Don't get too crazy with it though... ylang ylang's scent is so powerful it that may actually cause nausea.  It is best when blended with other oils, particularly citrus or some other sharp fragrance to...

Armor - The Protective Essential Oil Blend

A Tale of Two Cities.  White Christmas.  The Chronicles of Narnia.  Coca-Cola.  Armor Essential Oil.  Wait…what?  What do all these things have in common?  They are all best sellers.  And Armor is Selah’s #1 selling blend, for good reason! Recently, my family came down with the dreaded flu virus.  Like a lot of people this time of year, my mom, dad and sister all got hit with the nasty sickness around the same time.  But unlike the majority of people, none of them went to see a doctor.  Actually, they didn't have to.  Instead of pumping themselves with immune-system-killing medicines, they just used Selah's Armor Blendand Oregano (they work insanely well together to fight the flu).  Sounds crazy, right?  Except that it worked.  For...

The Healing Help of Helichrysum

"Hands down, helichrysum is the most useful oil we have in our home." -Brittany If that sounds at all familiar, then I think we might be related... I mean, skills of this caliber are genetic, right?   But seriously, these everyday mishaps happen to the best of us.  And wouldn't it be nice if there was something you could just rub on that bruise or cut to make it go away faster?  And if there was something that wouldn't just help relieve the pain, but would actually regenerate the damaged skin and tissue?  Something that would assist the body in the rebuild process? If you are nodding along, then this is your day!  I've got some good news for you.  You gotta...

Clove

Regardless of the season we are currently in, I have always looked forward to the fall.  The cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, crisp air, camping, hiking... It's just my faaaavorite time of year!  And then there's all of the spiced drinks and baked goods... gingerbread, apple cider, pumpkin pie!  Yum!  And as it turns out, all of these have a common spice: clove.  Originally native to Indonesia, clove grows on the evergreen Eugenia caryophyllus tree, (1) and is pretty much a key ingredient for fall.  As an oil, it is also a key ingredient in several of our blends, including Armor, Armor Spray, Clarify, Comfort, Empower, Ease and Resistance. But what does it do?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  :) Sources say that clove has been used for thousands of years to...
