Uses & Indications

Calming and sedative oil [anxiety/panic] (Price, 275).

Used in blend with lavender and marjoram for depression, headaches and insomnia (Price, 230).

May be used for headaches (Price, 242; 267).

May be used to help with colitis, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and indigestion (Price, 95).

Analgesic, antispasmodic, helpful for anxiety, shock and nervousness (Price, 247).

Indicated for menstrual problems (dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea) linked to nervous troubles (Price, 61).

Known to relieve muscular aches and pains (Price, 244).

Can be applied with Lavender and Geranium alongside antibiotics to help with mastitis (Price, 243).

Mild essential oil suitable for babies...can be used for a variety of infant complaints (Price, 249).

Can be used for itchy skin problems in place of peppermint for those who have a menthol sensitivity (Price, 283). 

May be used for itchy skin in pregnancy (Price, 244).

Chamomile is indispensable if you have children because it can be used for teething troubles and in the bath to ease nerves and tetchiness (Worwood, 20).

Valerie Worwood, in her book, Aromatherapy for the Healthy Child, states that Roman Chamomile is invaluable and should be kept in your “Basic Care Kit for Children.” She says that it can be used for: pain relief, fevers, skin problems, rashes, eczema, teething pain, muscular spasm, calming, helps nervousness, insomnia, constipation (Worwood, 34).

Schnaubelt says that Chamomile (antispasmodic, carminative, calming, sedative and tonic to the nervous system) is good for helping with symptoms of Chemotherapy – Induced Vomiting and Nausea.

Abcess, acne, addiction, analgesic, antiallergenic, anti-inflammatory, anxiety, arthritis, bactericidal, boil, burn, chicken pox, cold, colic, cystitis, dental health, diaper rash, earache, eczema, gingivitis, headache, insomnia, irritability, migraine, nausea, psoriasis, sedative, sores, sprains and strains, sunburn, stress, tonsillitis, wounds (Althea Press, 307).

For most skin problems, prevents or destroys fungal infections, kills bacteria, reduces inflammation, promotes the formation of scar tissue, acne, allergies, burns, blisters, cold sores, dermatitis, eczema, inflammations, insect bites, cuts and boils, tight dry and itchy skin, dermatitis, hives, numbs nerves, reduces inflammation, eases pain, arthritis, rheumatism, inflamed joints, sprains, strains, neuralgia, toothache, headaches, migraine, lower back pain, increases the flow of urine, stimulates bile production, aids digestion, stimulates and strengthens the liver, tones the digestive system, flatulence, diarrhea, gastritis, colitis, cystitis, peptic ulcer, nausea, encourages menstrual flow, regulates irregular periods, painful periods, reduce irritability caused by menopause and PMS, anti-insomnia, soothes the overexcitable, relieves mental strain, stress, depression, eases colic, teething, crankiness and restlessness (Purchon, 46-47).

Internal:  Although the quality of Selah Oils is excellent, it is not advised to take essential oils internally unless under the guidance of a certified physician who is also certified in aromatherapy. We recommend getting internal dosing instructions from a licensed physician as some essential oils are not recommended for oral consumption. This is in no way a reflection on our oil quality, only a matter of safety and caution with respect to how concentrated essential oils are. When used within safe parameters, and under your physician's care, the quality of our essential oils is such that they can be used internally if deemed appropriate.

However, with that said, it is important to remember the extreme concentration of essential oils. "Using essential oils by rubbing them into the skin or via inhalation is in many cases more effective than oral delivery" (Schnaubelt 96).

If for any reason you get essential oils in your eyes, put carrier oil along the eyebrows above the eyes and on the cheekbones below the eyes.
